Step by step
Tips for a neat result
- Finish allowances before sewing across them with a second seam.
- Choose the finish after testing on a scrap of the same fabric.
Common mistakes and fixes
The edge curls under the zigzag.
The stitch is too wide or the tension too tight for the fabric. Use a narrower, slightly longer zigzag, or sew it just inside the edge and trim close to the stitches.
The finish makes a ridge on the right side.
The stitch was too dense or the seam not pressed. Press well and lengthen the stitch.
Check your result
- No raw threads fray after rubbing the edge.
- The seam lies flat from the outside.
